Course Information
Description A foundation studio course exploring drawing with emphasis on descriptive, expressive and conceptual approaches. Students will learn to see and interpret a variety of subjects while using diverse materials and techniques which promote the appreciation of cultural expression. Course work will facilitate a dialogue in which students will engage in critical analysis and begin to develop their understanding of drawing as a discipline.

Learning Outcomes The student will be able to:
1. Understand and value the importance of art in life (PSLO Alpha, 1, 2, 5, 6) Measured by pretest/post-test, embedded test and quiz questions, group discussions, and/or oral & visual presentation rubrics
2. Acquire a basic knowledge of works of art (PSLO Alpha,5) Measured by pretest/post-test, embedded test or quiz questions
3. Respond critically to art (PSLO 1, 2) Measured by essay rubric, embedded test or quiz questions; group discussion
4. Understand the creative process (PSLO Alpha, 1) Measured by pretest/post-test, embedded test and quiz questions, group discussions, and/or oral & visual presentation rubrics
Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will: Describe visual subjects through the use of accurate and sensitive observation. Generate drawings which demonstrate descriptive, expressive, and conceptual approaches. Utilize varied materials and techniques with informed aesthetic and conceptual strategies. Demonstrate an appropriate level of professional practice, including safety, craft and presentation. Analyze and critique drawings verbally and/or in writing. Relate drawing to design, art history and contemporary artistic production.

Expresses a strong thesis; organizes information with effective transitions & sequencing of ideas; uses substantial, logical & specific development of ideas; details are relevant, original, credible and correctly documented when appropriate to show an effective development and interpretation of ideas; and presents ideas in appropriate mode of expression for the task.
PSLO 5: Social Responsibility Skills - Expresses intercultural competence, knowledge of civic responsibility, and the ability to engage effectively in regional, national, and global communities.
Identifies cultural characteristics (including beliefs, values, perspectives and/or practices); demonstrates knowledge of civic responsibility; provides evidence of experience in civic- engagement activities; and describes what she/ he has learned as it relates to a reinforced and clarified sense of civic identity in local, regional, national, or global communities; and shows awareness of one�s own culture in relation to others.
PSLO 6: Personal Responsibility Skills � Integrates choices, actions and consequences in ethical decision-making.
Recognizes ethical issues when presented in a complex, multilayered (gray) context; recognizes cross- relationships among the issues; discusses in detail/ analyzes core beliefs; the discussion has greater depth and clarity showing the independent application of ethical perspectives/ concepts to an ethical question accurately; and is able to consider full implications of the application.

Plagiarism on any assignment is against the law. You can be penalized for it on any assignment.
Leaving class will count as an absence, being late for class will count as an absence. No food or drink in the classroom.
Attendance Policy Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success.
Classes start on time and being late will count as an absence. After 3 absences it will affect your Final Grade.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
